Second Conditional Structure

The second conditional has a clear and simple structure:

Form: If + Past Simple, Would + Base Verb

The condition uses the past simple, and the result uses would + base verb:

  • If I had more time, I would learn Spanish.
  • If he studied harder, he would pass the test.

You can also reverse the order of the sentence:

  • I would learn Spanish if I had more time.
  • He would pass the test if he studied harder.

1. Ejercicio para KET (A2) - "The Sentence Upgrade Challenge"

Objetivo: Eliminar vocabulario básico y usar conectores de secuencia.

Instrucciones para los alumnos:

"Tomás ha escrito una historia muy aburrida. Ayúdale a mejorarla cambiando las palabras subrayadas por adjetivos 'Top' y uniendo las frases."

  • Texto a mejorar:

    • "Yesterday I went to the zoo. It was good (1). I saw an elephant. It was big (2). I ate an ice cream. It was nice (3). I went home. I was happy (4)."

  • Tu tarea:

    1. Cambia (1), (2), (3) y (4) por: Amazing, Enormous, Delicious, Excited.

    2. Usa estos conectores para unir las frases: First, Then, Finally

Ejercicio para PET (B1) - "The Opinion & Contrast Lab"

Objetivo: Forzar el uso de conectores de contraste (However / Although) y vocabulario de sentimientos.

Instrucciones para los alumnos:

"Escribe un mini-párrafo (40-50 palabras) sobre un deporte que te guste y uno que no te guste. Es obligatorio seguir esta estructura:"

  • Estructura obligatoria:

    1. Frase 1 (Opinión): In my opinion, [deporte] is [adjetivo positivo] because...

    2. Frase 2 (Contraste): ...However, I think [deporte 2] is [adjetivo negativo].

    3. Frase 3 (Sentimiento): ...Although it is difficult, I feel [sentimiento] when I play.

  • Vocabulario que DEBEN usar (elegir al menos 3):

    • Adjetivos: Challenging (desafiante), Exhausting (agotador), Wonderful, Boring.

    • Sentimientos: Confident (seguro), Delighted (encantado), Proud (orgulloso)
